Work is DONE! :-D

I set out a task for myself in the last few weeks, to get all my commissions done. Last night around 4 am, I finally finished! WHEW! Its been one long tedious step but I made it! Now I can sit back a little and enjoy those orange shortbread cookies (that are half-dipped in chocolate no less, YUM) that I made on the weekend.

I still have Christmas shopping to do unfortunately. I'm one of those slackers that wait till the last minute, yes. But anyways, here is a few pictures of preparations over the holidays for me so far, which includes a picture of yours truly with... omg.... SANTA!! YAAAYY!! :-D

Here is a picture of some paper garland I made with my hubby (Who is actually Santa up there... He dressed for the kiddies of his co-workers. Super sweet right?)

Every year since I was 15 I always painted images on the windows back home, so even in a small two bedroom apartment I try and do the same every year. This is what I did this year, from the inside and the outside. :-)

I wish I could post my new artwork, but majority of the people who hired me know of my blog and they were x-mas presents. I don't wanna spoil any surprises. :-)

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL holiday season!

Illustration Friday: Phenomenon

I was completely stumped this year for my annual Christmas card that I make. For the last 6 years I have been drawing a nostalgic Christmas card from my childhood to send to my closest relatives and friends and this year I was simply not in the Christmas mood. Every year I'm usually one of those people that hum-bugs normally scowl at since I have my decorations up almost immediately after Halloween. You know why I'm not in the mood this year? We have no snow. I.... Lori-lee Thomas, who lives on a frickin' island in the north Atlantic have no snow. What do we have? Balmy weather and fog.

So instead of forcing myself to try to be in a jolly mood, I asked myself, "Why?". Well this is why. I miss the snow. The wonderful magical time of year when you get the big fluffy flakes and ya run outside to catch em on your tongue! Where you get to watch them from your front window of your childhood home, feeling all cozy and warm inside and they gracefully fall outside your window. When you make the first snowman of the year, desperately trying to roll up the biggest ball possible! Just thinking about it makes me giddy! :-)

Those where the days. We were lucky enough not to have snow for Halloween when I grew up, but Christmas? Makes you seriously wonder how the world is being affected. When in my measly 27 years of life, I can notice a dramatic change in the temperature. Cause face it... I'm still a youngster myself.

So ANYHOO, here is my Christmas Card for 2010, "Let it Snow." I can't think of a more wonderful phenomenon than snow, and how now we once took it for granted. I miss it this year more than ever.

Cinnamon Ornaments

I found this recipe on Martha Stewart's website on how to make your own cinnamon bird ornaments! I for one LOVE the smell of cinnamon, especially in the fall/winter months. All you need to make them is:

-1/2 cup white school glue
-1 cup cinnamon
-1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce

You just mix the ingredients and make a dough, roll it out, and either cut your own shapes out with a knife, or use a template.

I made my own templates for a set of ornaments for my mother-in-law last week, and here they are. I like the birdy ones the best. On the site they use glitter to decorate them on one side, but I painted them. :-)
