Artcards!

I have ALWAYS wanted to do artcards for myself and to sell. So yesterday I was invited to a Stitch n' craft night with girlfriends and decided, why not design some cards? So I have come up with a few sets of ideas for artcards that I would like to try and sell. I will also be starting up an Etsy account soon, so I am SUPER excited about that. :-)



Anyhoo, here is the first card design. I will be doing a set of 5 fattie cards, and here is the first! :-)

Illustration Friday: Acrobat

This weeks theme on illustration Friday is: Acrobat. I opted to do a standard person perhaps doing a flip or two, but really got to thinking about their profession, and tried to figure out what else makes these people so entertaining to watch. Cirque De Soliel really inspires me, (especially since I'm a Quebeccer and all) especially their make-up and costumes. So I tried to capture one of the women I saw on TV last Christmas. The hair and make-up was just amazing. :-)

So here it is!

Being Crafty with Rocks!

Well since this summers rock painting workshops, I have accumulated many more rocks that I will ever use for times when I feel like... well... painting a rock! My workshop that I did this summer was of puffin heads, (And try finding a whack of puffin head shaped rocks! It took me 4 trips and 5 islands to get them all! Yikes!) but I did create a bunch more rocks just to show the people involved in the workshops that there are more things you can do and paint with them. Here is the puffin that I did, and also a bunch more I did for fun. :)




Now, the other rocks I picked up were much smaller. I found a bunch of small round rocks and of course made me think of my Fatties. I had always thought about making them into magnets and though that rocks made sense! So with the help of a glue gun, a few Popsicle sticks, toothpicks and of course magnets, I made these three little fellas yesterday afternoon after I completed my painting. I must say, it's cool to see these guys in 3D. I will try and figure out an easier way of doing the legs, but otherwise I will probably make more of these. :D


Aside from the rocks, here is yet another painting of puffins that I did for someone. They saw one of my earlier puffin paintings with the waves and fish (capelin) that I did for my father, and wanted one similar to that.

Illustration Friday: Proverb

This weeks theme for illustration Friday was, proverb. Therefore I decided to go with:

It totally gave me a reason to make more fatties! I haven't made any all summer! YAY! Instant smile! :-D

My summer wrap-up! (Finally!)

Well, when you are working in an isolated part of the world without proper internet and with deadlines, it gets rather hard to update blog regularly. Hence why I'm so late with this one! WHOOPS!

Well I managed to get 10 paintings done for my grant I received in May. this summer was an experience that I will never forget! It was so amazing to capture the uniqueness of the coast and get to experience it all at the same time. It was just the ultimate and the most intimate time I have had creating art in my lifetime. I hope to god I get to do this again in the near future. I met so many new people and visited new places this summer, that have really opened a lot of doors and opportunities for me, which I am also quite stoked about! :-)

I had three shows this summer, one in my hometown of St. Paul's River, one in Blanc-Sablon, and one at Point amour Lighthouse in Labrador. I gotta tell ya, I was a tad nervous about staying at a 150+ year old lighthouse for three nights alone, but it was just... awesome.

Waking up to whales swimming through the straits of Belle Isle, meeting a whole whack of new and interesting people, doing the rock painting workshops for the locals there, and of course the hospitality of all the folks there working everyday, was just perfect. There were no other words to describe my experience there. :-)

Speaking of hospitality, I was also invited by plane to the Chevery Festival of the arts, Conference and Tradeshow in late July. Chevery is a town down the coast from my hometown. I have never actually got a chance to go there since it isn't accessible by road, but I was so glad that I did. Again, I met a whole pile of folks, half whom I was related to (Thats the coast for ya!) and I had an amazing time. I had some of my artwork on display for everyone there, and I got such lovely comments on my work. It was a great experience, and I really hope to go back someday and create work there. :-)

Now? I'm back in Mount Pearl working on a mega-tonne of commissions that I had before I left and got over the summer. I have to finish up my final report for the NLAC, and work on a new proposal for the schools back home who I may be able to do some workshops for this fall. Keep your fingers crossed! I love the feeling of non-stop work, its reassuring to know what i will be working on the next day. It's officially been one year this month that I began working full-time on my art, and I achieved quite a bit I must say. I can actually say (And not even in a sarcastic tone!!) that I am proud of myself. :-)

Anyhoo, finished this painting yesterday! One of the many commissions off my list. :-)
