Illustration Friday: Surrender

*sigh*
Posting this is sorta ironic seeing as though this week we have had nothing but bad weather, from snow to rain... and rain... and more rain... did I mention rain? Thankfully we're back to snow today, which makes more sense, seeing as though IT'S THE END OF JANUARY IN NEWFOUNDLAND! I turned a year older last week and I can already feel myself, and hear myself turn into my father with all the talk about weather. Well, I surrendered to that too I guess, along with the cruddy hum-bug rainage.

I posted this already on here, but it totally fits this weeks theme, and my mood. Don't ya just wanna squish her little face though? She's based on my cousin's daughter, who is totally this cute in real life. :-)

Illustration Friday: Dusty

This week I have been unusually nostalgic about my art career so far. I think its because I went back to my roots this week with a drawing that I did for a friend of mine, Marlon who is a DJ. I don't know what you started using as art supplies when you were younger, but I used colored pencils and ink, like ALL the time! Maybe cause where I grew up there were no art supplies around, so I used what I had for school.

Now some of you may know that -I- am a total nerd. Yup. I grew up playing Nintendo, watching Star Trek, and yes, reading comic books. Comic books were my first art lesson. I mean think about it, dudes running around in tights? What an awesome anatomy lesson! Ahhh yes, I wanted to be a penciler for Marvel Comics as a teenager. Quite a big dream I had, but things change like everything else. This image here is a dusty ol' drawing to show you. I drew this 10 or so years ago when I was just beginning college. This was my Amazon character in the PC game Diablo 2, which I played with my guy friends and brothers. It was pretty evident how much I used coloring pencils back then, and how I always get nostalgic when I use them now. Its like opening a scrapbook of my life. Either way, I'm still a nerdy girl, who STILL plays Nintendo, who STILL watches Star Trek, and who plans on playing Diablo 2 this weekend. Awesome. ;-)

New sketch!

Well i've had this idea for a few weeks now to paint an Arctic Owl in the style of the puffins I've done before. So I drew this sketch out today to give myself a rough idea of what I was going for. Can't wait to show you the finished product! :-)

Deja-Vu

Well the funny thing about commissions is that sometimes someone who buys an original piece of artwork... as my elementary school French teacher did this summer, is that sometimes someone else sees it and wants me to paint another one like it! Mind you I never do repeats, but I will usually change it up slightly to make it interesting enough to paint again when I do. Well if you ever visited my website you would have seen the Puffin painting I did this summer, and this one I finished two days ago! Talk about Deja-vu! ;-D

Here it is! It's my favorite of the two! And now? I gotta do another one! lol

And no word of a lie, I fell asleep watching this episode of Monty Python's flying circus last night! The episode is called, Deja-vu! Hahaha! Here is the video, it'll make you giggle. ;-D

Resolutions!

My resolution? To make myself more art. As long as I can remember I have always made art either for school, or commissions, or for family and friends. This year? I would like to create more artwork for myself, of things that I like! I know that isn't much of a resolution but you know what? It'll make me happy, and in the end that is something that should matter to not just my loved ones, but myself too.

So, heres to being a little indulgent once in a while. Here is the first art piece of 2011! Just a small watercolor painting of an owl... my new obsession, and I put it in a lil' frame I bought a few months ago. :-) I got to try out masking fluid on this one! What an awesome product that is! I can't wait to create a large scale watercolor with a tonne of tiny details in it. Exciting!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic New Year! I was happy enough to be able to celebrate in the most easternly North American point, we get to celebrate the first New Years in the New World. Well 2010 had its ups and downs, but I hope for much more in 2011. I have already begun making plans for bigger and better things. :-)

Here is a painting I did in early 2010, called Night Wanderer, and its my favorite piece that I created last year.
