What influences you?

I came across a blog that had a picture called an "influence map." When I read the blurb about it I noticed that it was a poster made for artists to add images of their artistic influences too, to remind us of why we do what we do. Well I was just tickled pink about it, and during the weekend I made one for myself. This is the site where you can get the PDF file to do your own influence map!

I highly suggest it! And whether you are a painter, writer, musician, or even just creative, DO IT! It's just refreshing to relive all your past and present influences and inspiration! :-)

Fininshed mermaid!

Well I had OODLES of fun painting this. I kept it simple since it will be used for a jewelery business logo. Perhaps if there is a website with this womans work I will post the link here. Anyhoo, enjoy!

Watercolor Mermaid

I have a new and DIFFERENT commission that I am working on (and quite honestly uber excited about.) It actually got me out of bed early this morning! I LOVE it when you feel so passionate and inspired about creating art that you can't wait to start your day. :-)

Here is the sketch so far! I am gonna paint in watercolors, with lots of jewel toned colors and textures. Weeee! SO EXCITING! AHHH!!! :-D

Pin-up Art

I have for the past few years been getting into a lot of retro art and styles from the 40's-60's. One of the things that I have ALWAYS wanted to do was an old-fashioned 50's pin-up girl drawing! I looked for inspiration from old photos of actresses like Elizabeth Taylor, Jayne Mansfield and Betty Page, but I ended up liking this one photo of Marilyn Monroe, who lets face it, is a beauty ICON of that time. So this is based on that photo roughly. I have done a few more of them as well, who knows, maybe I will end up doing a pin-up calendar! Hehehe!

Illustration Friday : Reverse

Well this weeks theme sure was hard to think of. So instead of a literal drawing of something IN reverse... or... reversing... (If that makes ANY sense) I thought about the process of art making! This is where my paper collage-ing came to mind. I'm used to applying a medium like paint or ink or coloring pencils to paper, well, THIS time the role is reversed! Paper is the medium! And I gotta tell you, finding all types of paper has now become an obsession for me. I just LOVE patterned, textured, and just pretty papers to make collages with. :-)
